The fee formula
Since 2026, taker fees are calculated per trade with this formula:
fee = shares × feeRate × price × (1 − price)
In dollars per share, the fee is largest at a 50¢ price and shrinks toward zero near 0¢ and 100¢. As a percentage of what you pay, cheap long-shot shares carry a higher fee rate than expensive ones. A trade at 30¢ costs the same as one at 70¢. There is no fee at settlement and no fee on winnings.
Taker fee rates by category
| Category | feeRate | Max fee per 100 shares (at 50¢) |
|---|---|---|
| Geopolitics / world events | 0 | $0.00 |
| Finance, politics, tech, mentions | 0.04 | $1.00 |
| Sports | 0.05 | $1.25 |
| Economics, culture, weather, other | 0.05 | $1.25 |
| Crypto | 0.07 | $1.75 |
Rates change: sports went from 0.03 to 0.05 in July 2026, and Polymarket sometimes runs temporary fee promotions on selected markets. Older markets can keep the schedule they launched with, and the exact rate for any market is applied at match time.
Taker rebate tiers
Since 28 May 2026, active takers get part of their fees back through volume tiers (Bronze to Obsidian), from 3% up to 50% depending on 30-day weighted volume. The formula above is what a new or occasional trader pays; heavy traders pay less.

Open PolymarketMakers vs. takers
A taker order fills immediately against existing orders: all market orders, and limit orders priced to cross the spread. A maker order rests on the book until someone else fills it. Makers pay zero and receive a share of collected taker fees through the Maker Rebates Program: 20% of fees in crypto, 15% in sports and 25% in most other fee-charging categories, paid daily in pUSD.
The simplest way to cut your costs: use limit orders and be patient.
Other costs
- Deposits and withdrawals: no Polymarket fee. Network fees and card or exchange partner fees still apply.
- Spread: in thin markets the gap between bid and ask can cost more than the fee.
- Polymarket US: runs its own fee schedule, separate from the international platform.
