Limit orders and maker rebates
Makers pay no fee on Polymarket and share a pool of taker fees through rebates. Posting limit orders instead of market orders removes your biggest controllable cost.
Maker vs. taker in one sentence
If your order waits on the book and someone else fills it, you are the maker; if your order fills immediately against what is already there, you are the taker and pay the fee.
How to place a maker order
- Choose Limit instead of Market in the order panel.
- Set a price at or behind the current best bid (for buys) so it does not cross the spread.
- Wait. If the market moves away, your order may never fill: that is the price of zero fees.
Maker rebates
A share of collected taker fees (20% in crypto, 15% in sports and 25% in most other fee-charging categories) is redistributed daily in pUSD to makers whose orders were filled, weighted by the fees their filled orders would have generated in each market. Geopolitics markets have no fees and therefore no rebates.
When paying the taker fee is fine
- News just broke and the price will move before a limit order fills.
- The price is near 5¢ or 95¢, where the fee is tiny in dollar terms.
- Your edge is large compared with a fee of at most 1.75¢ per share.

Do limit orders on Polymarket have fees?
Not if they rest on the book. A limit order priced to cross the spread fills immediately and pays the taker fee.
