The legal situation in the Dominican Republic
Polymarket does not geoblock the Dominican Republic, but the national gambling regulator has warned against it by name. In April 2026 the Dirección de Casinos y Juegos de Azar named Polymarket, Kalshi and Criterio360 as unlicensed prediction platforms operating outside Dominican law and told citizens to avoid them and withdraw funds. Online gaming has required a Ministry of Finance licence since Resolution 136-2024, which blacklisted more than 40 brands. Law 86-26, published on 2 October 2026, creates a new regulator (DGJA).
Key facts
- April 2026: the DCJA warned that Polymarket, Kalshi and Criterio360 are unlicensed and operate outside Dominican law.
- March 2024: Ministry of Finance Resolution 136-2024 set online gaming rules and blacklisted 40+ brands (including Bet365, William Hill).
- Law 86-26 on Games of Chance (Gaceta Oficial 11263, 2 Oct 2026) creates the DGJA and ten-year online licences.
- No ISP block of Polymarket was found; the April 2026 action was a public warning.
What are your options in the Dominican Republic?
If Polymarket or local law restricts this country, the honest answer is: don't try to get around it. VPNs and third-party wallets break Polymarket's terms, can get funds frozen and may be illegal locally. Look for prediction markets or exchanges licensed by Dirección de Casinos y Juegos de Azar (Ministry of Finance), to become the Dirección General de Juegos de Azar (DGJA) under Law 86-26, and check back here: rules change.
