The legal situation in Romania

The ONJN blacklisted Polymarket in late October 2025 as unlicensed 'counterpart betting', after heavy betting on Romanian elections. ISPs must block the site. A Bucharest court refused on 1 April 2026 to suspend the listing, and Kalshi was added in February 2026.

Key facts

  • 29 Oct 2025 (published 2 Nov): Polymarket blacklisted by the ONJN.
  • The ONJN cited missing tax reporting, player-protection and AML controls.
  • 1 Apr 2026: a court refused to suspend the measure.

What are your options in Romania?

If Polymarket or local law restricts this country, the honest answer is: don't try to get around it. VPNs and third-party wallets break Polymarket's terms, can get funds frozen and may be illegal locally. Look for prediction markets or exchanges licensed by Oficiul Național pentru Jocuri de Noroc (ONJN, National Gambling Office), and check back here: rules change.
