The legal situation in Serbia

Polymarket does not geoblock Serbia, and no Serbian action naming Polymarket was found. The Law on Games of Chance makes organising games of chance a state right and bans taking part in foreign games of chance with stakes paid from Serbia. Since late 2020 the Games of Chance Administration has asked ISPs to block unapproved foreign gambling sites. Crypto is legal and licensed under the Law on Digital Assets, which has applied since June 2021.

Key facts

  • The Law on Games of Chance bans paying stakes from Serbia into foreign, unapproved games of chance.
  • Nov 2020: the Games of Chance Administration (UIS) sent ISPs a list of foreign gambling sites to block; VIP complied, and RATEL backed it.
  • The Law on Digital Assets (adopted Dec 2020, in force June 2021) has the National Bank of Serbia license crypto service providers.
  • Polymarket is not known to be on the UIS block list.
